Well, last Thursday was picture day, and I never really told you how delightful it went with everything that happened Friday. I woke Caleb up from his nap and dressed him in the outfit that we were brought by his Auntie. Even though we weren’t sure if he would be in the picture. I studied him on Thursday and thought, well, I can probably do post editing on the picture and fix his eye myself. I didn’t anticipate having to fix his smile too, but before I get to that, here are a few pictures I snapped before we left.
I’m trying to eat my snack, could you NOT take my picture please.

Check out these glares I got

Back to being my sweetie pie

If I could just wear these hot sunglasses for the formal portraits, you’d never even know I had a horrible black eye.

So off we went to Portrait Innovations (just wanted everyone to know where this was taken, because I ain’t claiming it). Now I knew going in, this is the bottom of the totem pole when it comes to having pictures made. Sure you’ll probably get some cute ones, but you can certainly do better for the same or a tad more money. I guess it just isn’t my style. I look back at the two times I’ve had his picture taken at Sears…to me…personal opinion, they look significantly better. The girl was really sweet. Really. But why? Why? WHY would you use this background??? If vomit were a Crayola crayon, this would be the color. I know, that was really gross, but seriously, I need to get my point across. I showed the picture to Amber, and she said “Oh, it’s very………pink! Their shirts look pink, their skin looks pink, the background looks pink, just lots of PINK!” It could have been such a good picture. Everyone was coordinating. But somebody needs to go back to color theory 101. If you want your subjects to stand out and be the focus of the picture, then don’t pick the only backdrop that washes everything into one shade. And the best part? He cried. He did this silent whimper whine cry. He wouldn’t smile for all the toys in ToysR’Us. Between photographs, he was a nightmare. He didn’t listen to anything. He threw things. He ran around. He screamed. He was that kid that people shake their heads at. Everyone else sat and reviewed the portraits, and Caleb and I sat in the car. Both sulking. I was mentally composing a half ass decent picture in my head that he probably would have smiled for. They had a little old school antique looking Radio Flyer ride on toy. They could have put him on that (he probably would have smiled) and had them sit around him. Everyone would have been much more relaxed and it would have been much cuter and less formal. Let’s face it, two year olds don’t usually do formal all that well.
Clockwise starting at the top, Cameron, Seth Matthew, Caleb & BJ

So the moral of the story is…Rachel doesn’t recommend Portrait Innovations.
Anyway, Caleb is now sick. He came home from our Friday Virginia trip with a cough and got up the next morning with a fever. He is still having an on/off again fever, hacking like there’s no tomorrow, his nose is…well…dripping like a faucet, and he just looks generally wimpy. Now he has diaper rash to boot. He kept me up most of the night, I got up at 4:30 this morning for medicine, then water, the milk, then to cut the thermostat down one, then to fix all the covers……. He woke himself up early from his nap coughing his poor little head off. I asked him if he wanted to lay on the couch. He nodded, so I propped a pillow up for him and tried to cover him up with my jacket. Scott has a super soft purple blanket that I deemed his wubbie (have you seen Mr. Mom? The kid on that movie calls his blankie a wubbie). Caleb moved my sweatshirt. I thought he said something about Max and Ruby. I said “What about Ruby?” Then I realized, he said he wanted Daddy’s wubbie.

Cost and color will not be noticed by the Grandmother this picture was taken for; she will not see pink and she will not see cheap…. after all it’s her 5 grandchilder who to her can do not wrong, who the best looking children ever born, who have never sinned and on any given day to this Granny they are the best kids on earth.
To this 78 year old Grandma it will be the best BIRTHDAY gift she has ever gotten; to sum this up from a Grandma’s heart I will use one word……all of her Grandchildern together in one photo with Charlie as a bonus…………PRICELESS!
I love you all and hope that Caleb is feeling much better.
