Here are a few pictures of the locomotive line up in Caleb’s fleet…minus one. OK up first is the Berkshire 2-8-4 steam locomotive which is the same as the movie The Polar Express…it has no road name or number as it was suppose to have been lettered and numbered to match the movie but it was a little hectic at Christmas. This engines usually pulls the three passenger coaches from the New York Central line. Steam engines are designated by the configuration of the wheel set up, so the 2-8-4 means that there are 2 pilot wheels (in front) then 8 drive wheels and then 4 rear wheel or trailing wheel on the locomotive…this configuration  has nothing to do with the tender.DSC00007DSC00008 Up next is the Acela Express high speed train, known on Caleb’s layout to be the “Bullet Train” capable of 200+ mph. This train is produced for Amtrak.DSC00005DSC00006 Then there is the two diesel locomotives which are programmed to run simultaneously in a configuration know as a double header. These loco’s usually pull all the freight on the yard or the New York Central passenger cars. These two when put together can easily drag every car on the layout without breaking a sweat. DSC00010DSC00009 Last but not least is the Southern green 4-4-0 which will be used to work the yard, once it has been established, but were waiting on the land owner to approve further constuction, which would consist of a siding that leads to several spurs where all the freight will sit while not in transit.

The only engine that is missing in action is the original loco that was first on scene…it has died a terrible death of fiery crashes to the floor. It was the original steamer (2-8-0) that pulled the New York Central cars. I sent it in to the manufacturer  along with $25 to be repaired, they called the other day and said it was beyond hope as the damage was extensive, so they have chosen to replace it with a brand new 2-8-0 but with a different road name, this one will be from the Baltimore and Ohio lines, but is identical to its predecessor otherwise…well I hope you have enjoyed your ride down the rails this morning.
