summer just got a little more tolerable

Daddy is coming home with this:

We’re so excited!

—Five hours later—

I wouldn’t exactly call it “ready for water in 45 minutes!” but it didn’t take terribly long considering it is a pool and we’ve never set one up before. Caleb and I have already spent about an hour in it. Me straightening out wrinkles, him splashing and having a slip-sliding great time! After flopping on his belly several times, I got to see the ickyness that is the inside of a diaper. I busted open at the top and the slimy jelly stuff started coming out. Luckily I caught it just as it happened (I think) and we stripped him nekid and got him some swim shorts.

Nothing spectacular here, it is hard to take pictures of a wet kid running around in a pool in the dark.

I’m heading to Kmart tomorrow to get the same thing I learned to swim in (how cute is that kid?!):

I hope he will be a little fish by the end of the summer!  Any tips (or websites) on teaching your kids to swim?!  Feel free to share!

Looks like so much fun! I like the arm floats I got at Walmart for Daniel. They were recommended to me by a friend. She things that they are the best thing for getting a child used to the water and how to swim. Do what you think is best for your son, though. Daniel is doing great with the arm floats- just swimming around like a little fish! Last year, he clung to me, though.

Rachel says: Yep. I’m hoping if he gets his confidence up with the bigger float, maybe we can try arm floaties by the end of this season. He’s never been in anything other than a kiddie pool so far, so hopefully the big float will give him plenty of confidence even though he can’t touch (that might freak him out a little at first). He’s a good kicker, so I think he’ll learn pretty quickly that he can get moving by kicking!

    Wow! What a great Dad!

Let me know what you think of that particular suit for Caleb.

My kids use either th swimmies or they have a suit that is more like a wetsuit with a float built in.

Both work, but I want something less constricting….plus, the little one needs to wear his at all times when we are swimming….even if he isn’t in the pool since he had a tendency to fall in!
