When we…I mean the elves put Rosie (the horse) together on Christmas Eve, her voicebox didn’t work correctly. An elf might have to slam the thing on his hand to get it to make a sound when a gentle shake should have done the trick. So Santa left a note to contact Radio Flyer customer service and have them send a new voicebox for Rosie. I ordered it the day after Christmas and the thing FINALLY arrived today (it shipped on the 7th, apparently then asked a cross country runner to bring it on foot). I can’t complain about their customer service though. With the exception of prompt service (I’m sure they had a lot of orders with the Christmas holiday), Radio Flyer simply asks you for the part number you need, your address and whether the part is missing or defective. It costs nothing. Which it shouldn’t have cost anything in our case since it didn’t work brand new from the box, but just sayin…they make the process pretty simple. I prefer to do anything and everything I can online without having to talk to a person/mail anything.

Rosie would make noise before, but she was rather temperamental. She was supposed to play a little song, but the song would stop in the middle, it wasn’t very loud, and sometimes the slightest touch would set her off, other times an earthquake was required. Scott changed out the batteries to replace the voicebox and activated the sound every time he moved! Now I’m wondering if Rosie has some type of proximity sensor. Scott hit the floor about a foot away and she started galloping.  Maybe Rosie will be one of those toys that goes off randomly in the middle of the night when all is quiet and still.  After a few minutes, we looked at each other and I said, maybe you better get that other one back out of the trash just in case. Thankfully Rosie does have an on/off switch, as well as a volume control. Smart people over at Radio Flyer.

J Girl has a spring horse also…but it does not have a noise box. Or rather, not one that comes from the horse. But on any given day, you can hear neighing and whinnying coming from the playroom as she rides her horse with much enthusiasm!

Although we are not against toys with batteries, we have found that without them, the kids’ imaginations takes over creating lots of uses for a toy that was once limited.

We also have a bucket with play carrots and apples that the kids feed their “horse”!

Have fun Caleb and let your imagination run wild!
