I would say it was one of those things that was worth it just to see the look on your kid’s face. But not only did that make it worth it…it was totally AWESOME for us too!! The stadium was pretty small, but let’s say it was just enough to make us want to come home looking up the Atlanta show! That would be worth a two states away drive even! When we got to the “hallway” area leading to the seats, Caleb went running in and stopped behind the back row of seats. To say his jaw hit the floor would probably be an understatement. He was in awe. Eyes lit up, mouth hanging open, “Wook, wook wook! It’s monster jams!” he said.

We went to the Pit Party so we could get an up close look and pictures of the trucks. I swear, when you’ve looked at, stepped on and tripped over as many Hot Wheels as I have, and you stand far away looking at these trucks, you feel like you’re looking at a miniatures or something. They look like toys. But then you walk up to them, and you may or may not be as tall as the 66″ tires. As a grown adult.

He was not happy, because he did not want to be carried.

In front of Monster Mutt

We went up and got our seats pretty early. There were so many people down there on the track. And that is hard when you have a toddler who wants nothing more than to get down and run. He would have loves to climb in/on the trucks too. The announcer constantly repeated that people should not let their children sit on or in the tires. People of course didn’t listen.

Grave Digger

Monster Mutt over in the corner with his tail sticking up. He also has ears and a working tongue, which can be moved in and out.

Sudden Impact

Avenger, this guy is nuts

Up close and personal with Booga. You can see how much better his eye is though. A tiny bit of bruise left (exactly two weeks after the fact), but I don’t think the scar will be bad.

mmmm $4 bucket of popcorn

I know this one is dark, there wasn’t much I could do with it, not enough light. I thought it was still cute though.

He was so good with his ear protection. I was trying not to make a big deal out of it, and tell myself it would be okay if he didn’t wear them. He put up a BIGTIME fuss trying them on in the store, but I don’t know whether he just saw other kids with them and thought, cool I have a pair of those! But he willingly put them on and kept them on the entire show! In hindsight, I’m thankful for that. Because it was really loud. We got adult ones, so they were a little big, but the one pair of junior ones we found were really tight.

The only picture where I tried with the flash. Did I mention at any point on this blog that I love my camera?

Introductions, the National Anthem and such

See his expression? This is how he spent the majority of the show. Mouth hanging open. Scott said you could have set a bomb off on the other side of the stadium and his eyes wouldn’t have moved off those trucks.

The Mutt, before he blew two tires! He’s borderline cute!

T-Maxx won the racing. The race with T-Maxx and Grave Digger was so close that it took the officials a few minutes of watching the footage frame by frame to decide. It must have been inches.

One of my favorite pictures of the night

They had three dirt bikers between the racing and freestyle. They set up what can only be described as a bike launcher. Of course sailing 100 feet through the air, 40 feet in the air just isn’t enough for these people. They have to do crazy tricks like standing on their bikes. One guy put his legs straight out behind him so that he was parallel with the ground. He just about lost his bike. You could see him stretch forward to grab the handle bars. It was enough to scare him, the next time he didn’t do anything, he needed a moment to recover. The next guy laid on his back on the bike then landed sitting with his legs and feet still hanging over the handle bars.

A Digger Donut

The Freestyle Winner, Gary Porter in Grave Digger. Shocking, I know.

    Hi.

I live in Monterrey Mexico, my four year old boy loves monster trucks and we already have tickets for January 3, 2009 Houston show. Since we have never attended a show like this, would you please give me some advise?, for example, does my kid is the only one who needs ear protection?, what about me? Am I allowed to bring my digital camera? (I wonder since they donĀ“t allow video cameras of ANY kind, most digital cameras can actually record video). I don’t even know what else to ask, but I want to make this experience great for my kid, for my husband and for myself, we really look forward to it.

I really apprecciate your time. Thank You.

    Kind regards,
    Alejandra
