If you don’t wanna read about potty training, you’re gonna wanna go ahead and skip this one…
My BIG BOY went in the potty for the first time!!!!!!!!! You just don’t understand how huge this is! I’ve been worrying about potty training my child for about ten years! Literally. I first thought about it as a teenager, even though I’ve only been a parent three years. I’ve been very gently encouraging him and waiting patiently for take an interest, because frankly, I have zero interest in dragging this process out over months and months. I want him to be ready, for it to be his decision. Call me lazy, but it minimizes the work on my part. He hopefully will not have to endure as many setbacks if I’m not constantly trying to get him to go in the potty. I don’t want it to become something stressful for him. He hates getting his diaper changed, and each time he gets upset, I remind him that if he goes in the potty, that means no more dreaded diaper changes.
I trimmed his mop today, so that always means bathtime afterwards to wash the itchys off. I have been asking recently before bathtime if he needs to go potty, since it would be icky to go in the water (like I’m sure he’s done hundreds of times). I had already stripped him when I asked and he ran in his room and pointed as his diapers and said “you can change me.” He wasn’t frantic about it, but I could tell there was some urgency in his voice. I told him we’d get a diaper on after bathtime and that if he needed to go, he could sit on the potty. And he did it! I made a huge deal out of it, congratulating him and telling him what a great job he did and how proud I was. He grinned so big that he couldn’t wait to do it again when he got out of the bath!! I am so proud of my little man! There is a light at the end of the endless tunnel of diapers!!
Edited to add: And here we are at the dinner table… I was despairing earlier today about his eating habits. He rarely eats lunch anymore and eats dinner about 25-50% of the time. We ate chicken pot pie for dinner and he scoffed it up, veggies and all. Daddy even offered him some french fries and he turned them down in favor of pot pie. Then he turned down chips in favor or yogurt. So what started as a sour day has certainly turned out well!

Congratulations Caleb!! What a big boy!
Jack used the potty once, a couple of months ago. He has NO interest whatsoever now… And he hates wearing diapers, go figure!
