how a seemingly innocent conversation can come back to haunt you

Not only are we not seeing the light at the end of the potty training tunnel, we have no end in sight for night time either. His diaper is about to explode by morning. In fact most mornings, we are in a rush to get through breakfast before his diaper leaks through. Why can’t you just change him before breakfast, you ask I don’t have the answer to this question. I’m not really sure. We are slow to get going in the morning, that’s all I got. One day last week, Scott was on his way out the door to work when I asked him to check Caleb. “He’s still dry,” he replied, “but he smells like pee.” Caleb seemed completely obliviously to the entire conversation, as he was wrapped up in something on TV. Soon after I got him changed and dressed. There was not a mention of it for several days. This weekend we were at my sister-in-law’s house. You can see where this is going right? Out of the clear blue, he looked at her and said, “You…<long pause, as if he had to contemplate exactly how to put it> smell like pee.” Just as matter of factly as could be. Excuse me, I’ll just be in this hole over here.
