hear the silence?

I was heading into the kitchen for dinner last night when this picture caught my eye. The setting sun was pouring in through the window in the playroom. All the different wood tones looked so beautiful, it just captivated me. This is, in essence, what I am working toward in our house. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t dislike toys with batteries, and we’ll still keep plenty of them around. But I’m finally realizing where my money is better spent. Not on the latest battery draining gadget that will be outgrown in six months. Not on the talking singing toy that dictates how it should be played with. But on the classic items that can grow with him, allow for creativity, and vivid use of imagination.

    It is a lovely pic… Makes me feel calm!

    Jack just came over to the computer sreen, pointed to the picture and said, “Mommy, I want that.”
