After an entire month of pestering and begging, we broke ground on the gingerbread house this morning. I didn’t realize that the first part was going to take so long or I would have done it ahead of time…out of my little helper’s sight. You have to “glue” the sides down first. Let that sit an hour. Then glue the roof. Let that sit 2-3 hours! Okay I doubt you really had to do that, as the icing hardens pretty quick. But by the time I had all that done, it was lunchtime, then he takes a nap after lunch. So we will be decorating the house when he gets up. I showed him the side of the box and asked him which house he liked, and he said he wanted to do this one:

So I cut up these darn peppermint things which took like 30 minutes by the way. I felt like I was cutting peppermint flavored onions, the aroma was so strong I got the sniffles. They are all gummy and sticky, which is why it took so long, but they dry out quickly once they are cut.

Here’s my tree made out of icing. Of course, after I made it, I read the side of the canister…”Icing does not harden.” Great. So I put it in front of a fan and dried it out some! It must have worked reasonably well because I accidentally knocked it over and you couldn’t tell! Oh, I will add finishing touches by the way, I’m not gonna leave it like this!
