“fun” day

I use the word fun lightly, as summer has officially arrived. Along with the North Carolina ridiculously hot weather. Today was a scorcher. And we were in and out of the car all day. I feel so gross. I’m not a hot weather kinda gal. We went and found Caleb some new shoes for the summer, sort of a hybrid between tennis shoes and sandals. He gets all bent out of shape when dirt gets in his Crocs, which doesn’t make it easy to play outside in them. So these will be more suited to outdoor play in the yard or park. We went over to Barnes and Noble for a while and picked up a few books. He loves playing with the Thomas table every time we go, despite the fact that we have a train table. What is the draw of those in store tables?! I gave myself a silent little pat on the back that we were able to leave the Thomas table, and THREE books that he had picked out…sans tantrum. Not even a whimper! It probably helped that our next destination was the children’s museum. Though we’ve never even been, but he was looking forward to it none-the-less. He had picked up from me that it was something to be excited about. My gut feeling said, just bite the bullet and get a one year membership off the bat. But it is a bit of money, so I decided we’d take a first visit, on the off chance that it would be a been there done that type place, where we’d only go a few times a year. Boy was I blown away! The very first corner was his dream come true. A real (life size – donations I assume) fire truck, police car, a stock car, a giant room sized sandbox with a small boat beside it, and the nose of a jet! Yes really, the cockpit and a row of seats from a real jet mounted on the wall! Needless to say, we spent the majority of our time there. I didn’t realize that they closed at 5:00 and it was 4:40pm before I realized that we ought to move on and see what else there as to see. He rode in the cozy coupe cars for a bit, then we headed into the next room where there was an awesome bubble area. The had plastic coat hangers down in bubble solution that you could make gigantic bubbles with. And if that wasn’t enough, they had this huge ring in the floor, maybe three feet in diameter that you could stand in the middle of and pull the rope which raised the ring (think large hula hoop here) dipped in bubble solution. It pulled a huge bubble up all around you which would reach an hourglass shape around the 5 foot mark and collapse. We had to leave shortly after that, as it was time for the museum to close. I didn’t get out as lucky as my bookstore trip. He did not want to leave! He whimpered and whined on the way out the door, but he was so tired, he fell out as soon as the car started moving. When we got home, a MAJOR MELTDOWN commenced. He was tired and begging through sobs to go back to the museum, soaking wet hot, despite the air being pointed right at him on the ride home, and hungry. All in all, it was a very fun day. I was just looking over the museum’s calendar, and I can’t wait to join! The membership we are looking at will also allow us free admission into over 100 other museums all over the US. Sure we won’t see most of them, but NC happens to be an excellent children’s museum state! My Mom also has one where she lives that she has been wanting us to go check out. I’m all excited! I kinda felt like a kid myself. I found myself playing at many of the exhibits too!

That sounds like a great museum, my kids would LOVE that!
Whenever we go to the Children’s Museum here in Boston, I always have a hard time getting the kids to move on from room to room. It’s like they are afraid to leave because they think the next area won’t be as fun… But it always is. We spend most of our time in the area with cars- go figure!

Every time we head into the city we always say we are going to stop at the children’s museum…but it never happens.
My kids LOVE the franklin institute….I have no idea why….but they do, so we are always there.
Sounds like a great time!
