Caleb was just being generally frustrating while I was getting him ready for bed. Finally, I said, “Do you need a time out to settle down a bit?”
“No saints (thanks) Mom.”
It took a little effort not to smile on that one. He just sounds so darn cute sometimes when he says things. He has started some back talking here lately. While I know it isn’t acceptable, it just cracks me up sometimes. He furrows that little brow and gets this serious voice and says “you can get me MY pappy[paci] RIGHT NOW!” Each word gets louder and has a pause in between. Gee, I just have no idea where he could have gotten that tone from. “Caleb pick your toys up right now!” Sometimes I have to turn my back to keep from showing my smile. Such the little adult, we are! Once I regain my composure, I tell him that isn’t a very nice way to ask for something, now is it? Then he gets this little angelic look and says, “pappy pleeeease.”
At bed time, he has started a procrastination ritual. We do our goodnights, and he sits back up, and just as seriously says “I can’t get to sleep mom.” I tell him he hasn’t tried, he will have to close his eyes and try. “I can’t try mom, I can’t. I just can’t sleep.” With the utmost concern in his voice. One night there was five minutes or so of silence, and then he sat up and said, “I can’t sleep mom, I just can’t. I got the sneezey sneezes. Aaaaah-Chew,” as he pretended to sneeze.” I cracked up, I just couldn’t help it. The sneezey sneezes?? I have no idea where he got that from. Wow, Wow, Wubbzy maybe? Who knows.
He’s jumping out of his little pottery barn chair right next to the desk. “Watch mom, I gonna jump again. I’m gonna jump really high, way up in the sky, and catch an airplane.” Wow, that’s really high.
