This past week, our backyard turned into grand central.  Several of the neighborhood kids, who seemingly are free to roam the neighborhood, took up residence on our deck.  We are glad to have the company, but our neat and tidy sandbox turned to chaos.  And it quickly became apparent that the biggest (and most expensive) hit, the moon sand, was being dispersed through the cracks in the deck at an alarming rate.

The sandbox

The whole area around the table with the moon sand box looks like this:

After a little research online, I stopped by Walmart last night and for the grand total of $1.75 for two boxes of cornstarch, I made my own moon sand.  It is a bit messier than the real stuff I think, but for a small fraction of the price.  You combine water, cornstarch and play sand.  The only difference is this sand does dry out.  You have to add a little water each time.

The darker models are moon sand, the lighter is my homemade sand

The seller was nice enough to change the auction to a buy it now since I kept pestering him with questions, so I am the proud new owner of a Volkswagen Bug cake pan!  My Herbie cake will look a lot more like Herbie than it did last time.  I never knew I’d be so excited over a cake pan!  I can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Cake pan was originally purchased at Sur La Table for anyone landing here from a search engine

As we were roaming through the store this morning on our errands, I stopped to check the Infants and Toddlers section.  It has been a while.  We’ve been recovering from Christmas and preparing to move, so I’ve steered clear, as I have a shopping addiction when it comes to kid clothes.  My cart just drove right in there though, I swear, I don’t know how it happened.

I’ve mentioned in the past that I’m drawn to cute little monsters for some reason.  Like the Manhattan Toy monsters.  And this cute Target kids monster bedding set.  Caleb however, couldn’t care a thing in the world about monsters, as I might have mentioned in the past, it is all about wheels for him.  So I spotted a compromise.  This absolutely adorable jacket!

I think the cuteness balances out the fact that it is a white jacket for a toddler.  It sort of reminds me of Dr. Seuss in a way.

And it is from…you ready for this…Walmart!

Obviously other people must have really liked it also because they only had two left, a 12-18 month and a 3t.  I had to force myself to put it back because Caleb is just about out of 3t, it didn’t make sense to buy it.  So what to do, what to do.  I know!  Send hubby to the next closest Walmart on his way home from work.  They had ONE left, a 5t, so now we have plenty of growing room (I think the Walmart brand tends to run small too).  And it was $7.50.  It’s the little things that make me stupid happy!

This adorable cow pedal tractor from FAO Schwarz has been hanging around at the top of the Christmas list, as it is pretty expensive ($200 + tax & shipping).  Well they just marked it $40 off today AND you can get an additional 20% off using the code SECRET when checking out, making the total $144.94 shipped (plus tax in applicable states)!!!  I am so excited it is ridiculous, so just wanted to share the good deal in case anyone else wanted to jump on it.  The 20% coupon is only good through tomorrow (11/26/08).  If you’re late seeing this, you may be able to get a 20% off -good til the end of the year- coupon by signing up for their email offers at the top of the page.
