Caleb has officially experienced his first power outage. We have thunderstorms that began this afternoon and are scheduled to last much of the night. I pulled something out of the freezer to begin dinner, and just as the door shut, the power went out. I waited. And waited. Nothing. My first thought was: Welp, guess we’re eating out. My second though was: Oh no, my ebay auction ends soon! I know I’m pathetic. I had been watching a buy it now game for over two weeks, and two hours before it ends, our power goes out. Fabulous. Caleb repeatedly pressed the TV power button. Like 25 times in 10 seconds. Then he became overly concerned about the lack of lighting. He climbed in the chair and pushed the dimmer switch for our overhead light another 17 times. We sat down on the couch and I explained the concept of a power outage. He listened intently. I named off things that would not work without power. What about the grass and the bushes he asked. They will still be there. Not sure where that question came from. When I finished explaining, he took a deep breath and proceeded to repeat everything I had said. Ten times. Daddy was going to fix it. Daddy had to check the breaker box. The computer didn’t work. The TV didn’t work. No lights. Nothing that plugged in worked.
We went and got some dinner and came back home to check, still nothing, so we headed over to Barnes and Noble. We meandered through all of the children’s books, and played with the train table. Because train tables at the store are always better. Even though you have one at home. And the tracks aren’t glued to it. And you have three boxes of tracks trains and pieces. Clearly the one at the store is superior. It began pouring buckets while we were in the bookstore. When we got home, we were all damp from running to and from the car. Caleb told Scott that he was wet and he needed to shake his head to dry off. We all started laughing and Scott said “Blog it baby.” Of course there was an echo. “Bwog it baby!”
I picked him up a minute ago to watch the rain out the front door. He said “Whoa, dos are big waves! Big waves on da grwass.” Hopefully we don’t blow away tonight!
