belated mother’s day gift

Before I was a Mom -
I cleaned my house each day. I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby. I didn’t worry whether or not my plants were poisonous. I never thought about immunizations.
Before I was a Mom -
I had never been puked on - Pooped on - Spit on - Chewed on, or Peed on. I had complete control of my mind and My thoughts. I slept all night.
Before I was a Mom -
I never held down a screaming child so that doctors could do tests…or give shots. I never looked into teary eyes and cried. I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin. I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.
Before I was a Mom -
I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn’t want to put it down. I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn’t stop the hurt. I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much. I never knew that I could love someone so much. I never knew I would love being a Mom.
Before I was a Mom -
I didn’t know the feeling of having my heart outside my body. I didn’t know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby. I didn’t know that bond between a mother and her child. I didn’t know that something so small could make me feel so important.
Before I was a Mom -
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay. I had never known The warmth, The joy, The love, The heartache, The wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom. I didn’t know I was capable of feeling so much before I was a Mom.
I received this poem from a few different people over the last week or so in honor of Mother’s Day. I also received an above described gift for a belated Mother’s Day Present. Before I was a mom, I had never been puked on. And this morning wasn’t the first time, of course. I am one of those people who just can’t deal with puke, without getting sick themselves anyway. I can’t look, I have to hold my breath. I wish I could just get over it. A sure sign your day is off to a good start, when you walk in the door and get puked on. And I thought I was just getting some extra lovin’. I had gone to run some early morning errands and Caleb ran up to me and hugged my leg when I walked in the door. He told me how much he missed me and how happy he was to see me, and then held his arms out. I picked him up and he nestled his head in my shoulder/neck. I was feeling so special until he looked up kinda woozy and said “BLEGH.”
I ate a piece of peanut butter pie as a late night snack, shame on me. I paid for it too. Boy I didn’t sleep a wink last night. Which meant I spent the whole night suffering through my allergies instead of sleeping through them. I swear they are worse every single year, by leaps and bounds. I am taking Zyrtec in the morning and Benadryl at night. I actually went to the pharmacy and begged them to okay Zyrtec in the morning and Claritin at night! Needless to say, they didn’t. The “24″ hour pill runs out after about 10 hours for me. I still cannot go outside without paying dearly for 24 hours. I can sit outside completely still on the screened porch and still have my sinuses burn all day, and sneeze several times. If I move around at all, even the slightest increase in breathing will send me into a sneezing, wheezing fit. I dare to think what it will be like in another 10 years. I remember taking Zyrtec as a teenager and being symptom free the whole season. I have used Claritin since it because over the counter, but it didn’t work so well last year. I tried it this year, just because it was much cheaper, but I ended up buying Zyrtec anyhow, thinking it would be just as effective as it was when I was 17. No such luck.

Awww, poor guy. He looks almost as pitiful as Annabelle! Hope he is feeling better soon!
