April 2005: Man are we tired!

Our first night home was a nightmare! Our upstairs neighbors sabotaged what little chance we had at sleep. It was a lot of drama, but let's just say we ended up calling the police twice after overhearing spousal abuse. Breastfeeding is off to a rough start, but I'm determined to stick with it!

I reluctantly took a pacifier from the hospital when Caleb wouldn't stop screaming in his new carseat. I already have a paci addict on my hands!

He dropped all the way down to eight pounds before my milk came in, and the doctor was a little concerned. We had weight checks two days in a row. But he gained the weight back quickly...our first hurdle in the world of parenting!

Happy Baby

Caleb started working on smiles around 3 weeks old. He is a very happy baby, and is completely content to cuddle up to sleep on my chest. Breastfeeding has improved through the month, but I thought it would come a lot more natural!

First Exam

While we were still at the hospital, the pediatrician performed Caleb's first exam. She came by to talk with us afterwards, and said that Caleb has hip dysplasia. This mean that the socket in one hip did not fully close around the bone. So she had someone come and fit him for a harness that would keep the hip in proper alignment over the next three months for this to happen, with no long term affects afterwards. I can assure you, it makes diaper changes a real challenge.
