and we never know what he’s gonna do…

Saturday night, I stayed up until 2:30am wrapping presents. I was going at snail’s pace. I went out and finished up Caleb’s shopping on Saturday, so I wrapped what I bought that day. The rest of the pile, not so much. I climbed into bed and fell out immediately. It had been so warm that day that I turned on the air to cool the house off a bit before I put Caleb to bed. I was so tired by the time I got in bed, I completely forgot about it. Around 3:45am, I heard Caleb. I opened my eyes and he was standing there with his train blanket. He’s been bringing an extra blanket in addition to Charley and his pappy (paci) here lately when he comes to get in bed with me. I took the blanket and he headed back to his bedroom. I assumed he was going to get Charley and pappy. But he never came back! So he just randomly brought me a blanket in the middle of the night! A little strange, but okay.

So last night, I put him to bed. I left a sippy cup of water next to the chair. We stayed up late watching Spiderman 3. When Scott opened the door to the hallway, leading to the bedrooms, Caleb’s bedroom door came open. I went in to check on him, it was about 1:30am. And there he was. Sitting in the chair. He had draped a blanket across his lap and was just sitting there as if he was watching a TV that wasn’t even there. I have no idea how long he had been sitting there. He had gotten his water and finished off half a cup full. We rarely use the monitor anymore. I lucked up on a video monitor for $35 when I was pregnant. It was great, until the night vision crapped out. So we used it as an audio monitor for a long while, but now I usually forget to turn it on. It still comes in handy while I’m wrapping presents late at night, because I don’t need any surprise visitors!  So anyway, I gathered him up out of the chair and took him to bed with me.  We were all giggling.  He was just wide awake too.  He rubbed his eyes and said “Turn da wight on Mom!  Can I have some more water?”  So I went and got him a little more to drink and got in bed with him.  He sipped on that for a few minutes and then said, “Santa’s coming Mommy.  He’s coming to pick us up in da sled.”  What??!  I said, “No baby, Santa brings presents to us in his sleigh.”  “Yeah,” he replied.  “Like new toys!”  Well yes.  That’s right.  And with that, he drifted back off to sleep!

Today he spotted a moth when I pulled the blinds up. It began wildly fluttering against the window, presumably looking for a way out. He called me over to look at the “butterfly” and said “Wook Mommy! It’sa butterfwy. Him wooking for his famiwy. He’s wooking for his famiwy Mom!” So I went and got a cup and a piece of paper and returned. “No Mom, don’t get him! Don’t get him, he just wooking for him famiwy!” So I assured him I wasn’t going to hurt the “butterfly” and I got him to fly into the cup and covered it with the paper. We took him outside and let him go. He waved by and we watched as the little moth fluttered up into the sky. “Him go find his famiwy!”

AW! How precious about the family of butterflies! I LOVE it! I just LOVE the random stuff they say! And things you dont think they know! SURPRISE! Like Aidan today, we were at Target and I told him I left the sippie cup in Mommy’s car. He said “no Mom (yeah I’m Mom now too!) it’s in DADDY”S TRUCK” (we drove the truck to target lol)

PS I LOVE the Christmas Card idea! I’m so going to use it next year! We even wanted a funny one (like that family with all the kids in the blog you showed me) but they didn’t even do that lol!
