We did celebrate National Ice Cream Day (out of respect for the holiday of course
), but my original plan backfired. We had planned to go to the cute little ice cream shop that recently opened but they were closed Sunday night. We ended up drawing quite the crowd to a different location with good ice cream none-the-less. It wasn’t the photo-op I was hoping for (more of a restaurant that serves ice cream, so I didn’t want to look like a nut with my big camera), but it was still fun.
A few weeks ago we went to the newly opened ice cream place mentioned above. They have picnic tables outside with big umbrellas. Caleb’s granny Gooch and Auntie Nadine brought along some bubbles for him and we sat there over an hour probably. We got Caleb some ice cream in a cup and he ate a little, then went to play. He came back to finish once it had all melted and it looked like we should have covered him with a trash bag smock first. It was hilarious. He had ice cream all over his clothes, face, all down in his sandals. Everywhere. I had to strip him down to his diaper (oh yeah! Who doesn’t wear those anymore?!) to put him in the carseat! We blew tons of bubbles, shared bubbles with another family that showed up and sat at a nearby table, and watched a long train go by just a few hundred feet away (which Caleb loved of course). By the time we were done, it looked like our table and a surrounding 10 foot radius needed to be pressure washed! He kept trying to catch bubbles on the want while holding on to the solution and he would lean over and spill a big puddle of it. There was ice cream everywhere. I know they had to get the hose out to clean up when they closed that night. I hope we can go again soon and get some pictures, I could have kicked myself for not taking my camera that day.
Since Caleb enjoyed the melted ice cream so much, we just got him a milkshake this past Sunday, and he drank the entire thing. Boy was he a live wire! And a bear to wrestle down to bed a few hours later!

What fun!! Too bad you didn’t have your camera. I kick myself too when I forget or decide not to bring it!
