It’s time for service

Ok ever since we got the train set Caleb has loved trains….we have been to several train shows, the Transportation Museum in Spencer and have rode a couple of trains….even stayed in a train car that had been converted into a room at the Chattanooga Choo Choo in Tennessee. About eight to ten months ago Caleb found out what a turn table is and has wanted one for his layout. For those of you that don’t know what a turntable is, well it don’t play lp’s  it is for servicing engines and turning them around to get them pointed in the right direction. Last Saturday I went to New Bern NC to pick up an auction that I was surprised I won…this particular turntable is the latest version of turntables and it will hold the largest engine made for HO scale, when I would look for one online they were always sold out and every auction on Ebay always went well above retail. The turntable I got was used but it works flawlessly and will be a great addition to Caleb’s train set. As far as the servicing of the engines go, that took place in a roundhouse which was around the turntable or at least some of it and had what is called fan tracks coming out from the turntable that would carry the engines into the roundhouse for maintenance and service, the pictures that follow will make that clear. The track in the pictures are not tacked down but only for looks to take the pictures. The roundhouse and turntable in Spencer are still in service today along with several others around the country and the world. Coming in the mail in the next few days is the roundhouse that goes with the turntable I picked up and does not yet appear in the pictures but I will post some when it gets here and is on the table where it goes. There is also a video of the first test run of the turntable, all the current track is in place and tacked down, however there will be three more tracks that will go to the roundhouse that is on the way, by the way the part of the table that the turntable is on has not been added to the layout just yet but I have to hide it till his Birthday at the end of March. I can’t wait till he sees it. Anyway here ya go.2011-02-21_20-59-39_1 2011-02-21_20-59-58_940 2011-02-21_21-00-07_57 2011-02-21_21-00-18_732 2011-02-21_21-00-28_6

This past weekend we went to the circus in Greensboro…Caleb’s favorite part was the high wire where they rode the bikes. This was his first trip to the circus but not his last.2011-02-13_13-54-18_711 2011-02-13_13-55-50_171 2011-02-13_13-10-57_150 2011-02-13_13-11-37_824 2011-02-13_14-29-57_795 2011-02-13_14-30-24_765 2011-02-13_14-53-04_53
